The Department of Geriatric Medicine offers general medicine and primary care for the elderly and senior citizens (60 years old and above). Working in collaboration with other subspecialties at the International Hospital of Bahrain, the first priority is to provide patients with the highest level of primary care possible. The Department is supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities that include Microbiology, Serology, Pathology, Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology.

The department also provides care for seniors suffering psychological and physical disorders common in old age such as dementia, memory impairment, osteoporosis, incontinence, imbalance, depression, cardiovascular and neurological disorders; and also provides care for those having multiple pathologies and impairments.

The presence of all the major subspecialities at the International Hospital of Bahrain enables the Department to provide comprehensive care to a patient with multiple problems without fragmentation of care and with the ability to optimize medical treatment, thus improving quality of life.

The Department of Geriatric Medicine also coordinates a comprehensive medical check-up program designed for older persons. The aim is to detect risk factors early and provide preventive medical interventions and advice regarding lifestyle modifications.
